Why choose Copper Tree

Why choose Copper Tree Wellness Studio?
Copper Tree is a unique welcoming studio offering various classes available to everyone at any level!  If it’s Yoga you are seeking out, Pilates to tone your core, Nia-learning to move your body’s way; or the best massage you’ll ever have, once you come, you’ll never leave.

Why the Copper Tree?
In yoga the tree is a symbol of growth and change, as we move through life we change physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.  A tree does the same, and like a tree even though the trunk enlarges, the bark gets a bit rougher and the leaves constantly change and fall only to re-grow again, the roots have been the same roots since the seed.  A tree is also the symbol of family and unity.  Everyone here is family, you are nurtured and encouraged to develop as an individual and in your practice knowing everyone is unique and different with the support of a great family.  A tree’s branches are constantly multiplying and reaching out; here at Copper Tree we do the same.
The color copper is a color of a warrior, of strength and energy, finding your inner strength to press forward into the unknown, revitalizing lost energy to find life once again.  To truly be strong physically we must first be strong mentally and emotionally, what we have inside shows on the outside.

What is wellness?
“the quality of being in good health especially as an actively sought goal” (Webster On-line Dictionary).  When we look at wellness we like to think “lifestyle approach” and in the yogic means, yoga is thought to be a lifestyle practice.  Not just something you can do in your 20’s or 30’s but is safe, beneficial, and never ending, a constant life fulfilling practice or lifestyle.  Wellness is thought to be preventative medicine, keeping you healthy.  Although our primary practices here are yoga, we offer so much more than that!  Yoga is available and adaptable for “everybody” but if it’s not for you all the practices here are mind-body, we emphasize that a healthy mind equals a healthy body and a healthy body feeds a healthy spirit.

What is Yoga?
The word yoga, from the Sanskrit word yuj means to yoke or bind and is often interpreted as "union" or a method of discipline. A male who practices yoga is called a yogi, a female practitioner, a yogini. Yoga is a lifestyle approach one we are able to expand ourselves in on every level. Yoga is thought to be over 2,000 years old with texts dating back to that time (the Yoga Sutras).  There are eight limbs to yoga and in today’s time most people are familiar with practicing the third limb of yoga-asana (physical poses).

What types (or styles) of yoga do we offer here at Copper Tree?
We primarily teach Hatha yoga, a focusing of alignment and posture (Hatha, is the most commonly practiced yoga in the United States), here at Copper Tree our yoga is a blend of various styles to give you a unique variety of poses, flows and approaches to your practice.  Within the Hatha yoga, we also offer a blend of Vinyasa, a flowing or linking of asanas one to the next on breath by breath movement cues.  And Iyengar, holdings to encourage strength, will, and time to focus on one’s self in the pose.
Each class develops a foundation of balance poses, twisting, forward and back bends and at the beginner level- basic inversions.
No one yoga style is better than the other, the most important thing is to find a style that is right for you or an instructor who knows how to take the best of all kinds and combine them into a great practice.

What is Pilates?
The Pilates Method (sometimes simply Pilates), pronounced /p?la?tiz/ ("Puh - LAH - Teez"), is a physical fitness system that was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. Pilates is a method of exercise unlike anyother, Pilates focuses and centralizes all it’s movements from your “powerhouse” or your “core”.  Pilates was designed first as a form of rehabilation and is still used in for that today in addition to this main draw rock hard abs and a toned body.
The True Pilates Method (as taught at Copper Tree) is unique to Joseph Pilates original teachings, emphasizing on proper breath, alignment and movement.  Unfortunately Joseph Pilates never trademarked his name or his practice, so today there are many out there claiming to teach the Pilates method with little or no adequate training.  You must understand the Pilates foundation of movement before you are able to learn the movements themselves, like yoga (even though the two practices are not the same) it is a life long practice.

What is Nia?
Nia is a body-mind-spirit fitness and lifestyle practice. Through expressive movement—The Body’s Way—Nia empowers people to achieve physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Nia is a blending of the arts (the nine movement energies):

Martial Arts-
Tai Chi (circular, elegant soft, fluid movements)
Tae Kwon Do (percision and development of organic skills, mechanical and natural movements)
Aikido (harmonious spherical motion)

Dance Arts-
Jazz (fun and sontaneous self-expression, with strenght and flexibility)
Duncan Dance (the free-spirited movement of full-body expression)
Modern Dance (creative play with shapes, movement in space, and the expression of our emotions)

Healing Arts-
Yoga (sensing bone and joint alignment, opening and freeing your body of unwanted tension and stress)
Moshe Feldenkrais (connecting to body sensations, in motion and in stillness)
The Alexander Techinque (movement from the top of the head, creating proper alignment)

What is Tai Chi Chaun:
Tai Chi has been around for more than 1,000 years and continues to help and heal people body, mind, and spirit.. This ancient Chinese art is both a practice of awareness-moving in a more meaningful way as well as an art of self-defense.
Tai Chi is a combination of traditional Chinese medicine with the Taoist teachings of naturalness and harmony. This practice is thought to be the Chinese Yoga.
Tai Chi is a form of exercise distinguished by slow moving forms varying in sequence and postures, performed in a relaxed and conscious manner, creating vitality with calmness, release of accumulated stress and tension, balance strength with flexibility, and controlled energy with awareness.

How do classes at your studio work?
Classes at Copper Tree are mainly on a Punch Card Basis, meaning you buy a punch card of 5, 10, or 20 and this allows you to come and go to any class as you wish.  The punch card has a 1 year expiration, however we encourage all students to come at least once a month.  There is no need to pre-register or call ahead (unless you have questions otherwise) for the punch card classes.  Within the punch card, we offer several great incentive discounts: student (13-18yrs with ID), multiple family discount (within the same household), senior discount, 60yrs plus; discounts are only applied to punch cards,  not drop-ins.
Aside from the punch card we offer what we call 101 classes, these classes are foundation buliding classes designed to give both new students and practicing students a better understanding of what and how to practice effectively and correctly and a given time to ask questions and get even more direct hands-on attention.  These 101 classes are aside from the punch card, but can be taken before, or while attending punch card classes.  Unlike the punch card pre-registration is required for the 101 classes.  We understand that our 101 class times may not always work for everyones scheule so in the mean time start up with one of our beginner punch card on-going classes.  No sense in waiting around to start, the best time is now
